Descriptive Text

Hello Everyone, back again with CeritaRabuPagi, in semester 2. part 1

In this page I will show you about my learning understanding of the "Descriptive Text: study in my school". I learning from my teacher, Mam Yuni Akbar. She is the teacher English language in my school, she's gorgeous and kind people.

    Descriptive Text function to explain something. Whether it's people, objects, events or places. Descriptive text provides detailed explanations so that readers understand the object of information they are looking for.

  • Structure Descriptive Text(Generic Structure) 
    • 1. Identification (Introduction/classification), is an introduction, in the form of a general description of a topic.
    • 2. Description (characteristic features), is to contain the special characteristics of the object, place or person being specifically described.

  • Language components are used Descriptive Text:
    • Specific participant: it can be something which is not common and usually unique because it is the only one in the world.
    • Adjective: They can be adjectives, adjective phrases, or land adjective clauses.
    • Simple present tense: is used in sentences that express activities or facts that happen in the present. This tense uses only one verb.
    • Action verbs: use verbs that indicate an activity or an activity that can be seen. For example, sleep, walk, sing, dance, etc.
    • Figurative language: usually using a metaphor to  provide an illustration to the reader.

  • The general order of  adjectives before noun is the following: 
    • The keywords is: OSASCOMP+N
      • Opinion: Attitude/Observation (Good. beautiful. ugly. amazing....etc.) 
      • Size: Size/Height (Large. medium. short. little....etc.) 
      • Age: How old is it? (Modern. old. ancient. mature....etc.) 
      • Shape: Shape/ Weight/ Length (Round. triangle. circular. rectangular....etc.) 
      • Color: Color/Approximate Color (Black. green. blue. yellow....etc.) 
      • Origin: Where is it from? (Spanish. Javanese. French. Japanese....etc.) 
      • Material: What is it made of? (Leather. metal. gold. silver....etc.) 
      • Purpose: What is it used for? (Riding. plating. meeting. running....etc.) 
      • Noun: (Car. cat. Ball. Class. Area....etc.)

    
    After understanding OSASCOMP, you can learn to compose English gradually. For easy Example, start with easy words:
  • This is a Book
    1. This is a nice, small, and old book.
    2. It is a square, blue, and Javanese book.
    3. It is a paper writing book.
And now you can arrange it by adding Language components, for example:

        This is a Book

This is a nice, small, and old book. It looks like square the colours is blue. The book is made of paper as commonly Javanese  book.


Descriptive Text also us the five senses to describing something: 
1. Sight 
2. Smell 
3. Hearing 
4. Taste 
5. Touch

  • Sentence Structure
Sentence Structure: S-V-O + Adverb 
S= Subject
V= Verb 
O= Object 
Adverb = (Manner/Place/Time/SW--1H) 

  • Adverb of Manners 
Adverbs of manner tell us how something happens. Adverbs of manner are usually placed after the main verb or after the object. 


  • Adverb of Place 
Has a function as an explanation of where an activity occurs or is carried out (location). the direction in which someone or something moves (direction). how far someone or something is (distance).


  • Adverb of Time 
Time adverbs tell us when something happened, as well as how long and how often.
